How to Detect and Remove Duplicate Content

Duplicate content occurs when articles, links, domains and URLs are similar between 2 or more websites. This is a problem because there is a possibility that your website gets blocked and your ranking drops in the search engines.

Search engines like Google have crawlers called "spiders" that search for content that are optimized and rank them accordingly. However, if your content has been compromised, it is best to remove the duplicated content immediately lest your website rankings gets penalized.

There are many ways to do this. Just make sure that you follow the rules and instructions carefully and delete unwanted contents while optimizing the correct ones. It is suggested that you index all your categories so that the "spiders" can crawl through them effortlessly and never miss out your important pages.

Remember that there are two types of duplications:

They are close duplication and exact duplication. Close duplication is when content from 2 websites are almost similar albeit written in different words or structure. Exact duplication is self explanatory. It's when 2 exact copies of a content appears on 2 different websites.Sometimes this is unavoidable because there are millions of sites and you can't know that a similar content already exists.

Just take the example of writing articles. You want to create unique articles to ensure you don't plagiarize someone else's work. Webmasters have ways to produce 100% unique articles. You can also hire ghost writers or hire writers for your website. Just make sure that they know how to create unique articles and it should be high in quality.

Page titles and article titles can also be duplicated. To avoid this, check your page title carefully by searching in other websites. Again, create unique articles and make sure that Google and other article sites will accept it.

You can use anti plagiarism sites to ensure no duplicate content appears in your article. Although it can cost you a small amount of money, it is quite effective since you can remove duplicate content once it has been detected.

You must also know something about html and php. In this way, you are able to determine and eliminate any problems on your site especially if where duplicate content is involved.

You can also use a robot.txt to help you remove duplicate content. Just make sure that these are installed in your system to detect any underlying issues.

Removing some old files is also highly recommended. This is to fix broken links. Note that old files in your system can be overwritten especially so when you update with new ones. Delete the old files first and you can continue using the new one. This is to make sure that there will be no broken links and duplicate contents.

Fix and remove duplicate content once you have detected it. Remember that it will benefit you and your website in times to come. Always be vigilant so that your page, article and content will be highly ranked.
